What kind of game is Mycopunk?
Mycopunk is a first-person looter shooter built around combat missions. You play as one of the robot employees of SAXON, an extermination outfit sent to deal with a spreading fungal infestation. The game is developed by Pigeons at Play and published by Devolver Digital.
It supports single-player and online co-op, so you can deploy alone or with a small crew. The Steam listing confirms both modes, and the PlayStation page lists up to four online players. Co-op is central to the design, but solo play is a supported way to learn the systems.
Mycopunk is not a farming simulator and has nothing to do with Roblox, even though search results sometimes mix those up. If a guide talks about planting crops or Roblox codes, it is about a different game.
The core loop: deploy, fight, return, upgrade
Every session follows the same rhythm. You pick a mission, drop into a level, complete the objective while fighting fungal enemies, and then return to an orbital hub. Between deployments that hub is where your crew regroups, socialises and prepares for the next run.
The loot you bring back is what makes the loop feel rewarding. Upgrades and resources earned in the field feed directly into your loadout, so each mission changes what your next one looks like. The publisher describes gear customisation and cooperation as the two pillars of the game.
Because every return lets you rethink your gear, it pays to experiment. Treat early missions as practice for movement and target priority rather than as a final test of your build.
Four systems to learn before anything else
SlideDrum's new-player guide is a useful map of the fundamentals. Its chapter list covers mission selection, taking enemies apart, collecting resources and skill trees, in that order. That order is also a sensible learning path for your first few hours.
- Mission selection: learn how to read and choose missions before you worry about difficulty.
- Movement: the creator guides treat moving well as a core skill, so practise it from your first mission.
- Enemy cores: fungal enemies are dismantled by destroying their cores, not just by shooting limbs.
- Upgrade grid: upgrades are placed into a limited grid on your gear, and that space shapes every build.
Why patch dates matter when you read old guides
Mycopunk has changed a lot since Early Access began on July 10, 2025. Version 1.9, The Enemy Update, arrived on June 25, 2026 and added an in-game voice system, locked bunker points of interest and Pattern Infusion. Earlier patches changed how upgrades are boosted and how ordinary weapons are acquired.
That means a tutorial from launch week can still teach you the basics but get specific details wrong. Before following a route, cost or build from an old video, check the date and compare it with the current patch notes. Our guides state the version context for exactly this reason.
The full 1.0 release is planned for October 20, 2026 on PC and PS5, and the developer has announced more content for it. We do not publish fixed totals for characters or weapons until they can be checked in the released game.
Progression systems you will meet later
Once the basics are comfortable, several progression tools appear on top of the grid. Since update 1.7.2, resources can be spent to boost non-exotic upgrades, which is separate from simply finding them. Exotic upgrades follow their own rules, including turbocharging for some characters.
Version 1.9 added Pattern Infusion, which unlocks with Incursion at player level 13. It uses Antimass Substrate to transfer upgrade patterns, so treat it as a later-game refinement rather than something to chase on day one. The same update moved ordinary weapon acquisition to Armament Licenses, while secret weapons keep their own unlock routes.
There is also Ouroboros, a roguelite mode added in December 2025. Runs rebuild your upgrades from scratch, and eligible upgrades can be made permanent through Cleanse. Our corrupted items guide explains what can and cannot be kept.
Solo or co-op: which should you start with?
Both are fully supported, so the right answer depends on how you like to learn. Solo play lets you pause to read upgrade descriptions and take missions at your own pace. A crew of friends shares the workload and makes it easier to see how other players build.
If you join strangers, check the game version and whether the host allows modded players before you connect. Version 1.9 also added built-in voice chat that does not need a Discord account, so coordinating with a public crew is easier than it was at launch.
Your first sessions: a practical plan
Start with solo or a friendly crew while you learn the controls and the mission flow. Focus on hitting enemy cores and on not wasting resources during your first returns to the hub. You will understand the upgrade grid much faster once you have a handful of upgrades to compare.
Next, pick a direction for your loadout instead of equipping everything that looks strong. Our build guide explains how to plan around a combat loop and grid space. If you are short on resources, the Yeuco guide covers how core harvesting works.
When you are comfortable, the secrets open up. The hidden weapons guide explains the Carver chainsaw and Globbler routes, and the bunker guide separates the three different bunker-related secrets.
Where players ask questions
The official Discord and the r/MycopunkGame subreddit are the busiest places for help. Common threads cover access cards, how upgrades interact and how to spend resources. These are useful signals, but individual comments are player opinions, not developer documentation.
For finding a crew, read our matchmaking guide. For PlayStation questions, start with the PS5 page and the crossplay status.
How this wiki checks information
Every page lists its sources, separates official patch notes from player reports and dates the check. When something has not been confirmed, we say so instead of filling the gap with a guess. We do not publish invented drop rates, damage numbers or redeem codes.
If you spot something that has changed, especially after the 1.0 update, please send a correction through the contact page. Clear screenshots and your game version make updates much faster. We re-check the most time-sensitive pages, such as platform and release information, after every major update.
