Quick answer: bunker first, desert second
The red key card is a two-part secret. First you find the card inside a locked bunker, one of the optional points of interest that version 1.9 added to uncharted levels. Then you take it to an access-card building in Flourishing Desert and use the computer inside.
Two independent Reddit threads support this route. A June 28, 2026 discovery thread describes taking the card to the desert building, using its terminal and then finding a new mission after returning to the lobby. A July 5, 2026 thread independently confirms that the card comes from the locked bunker.
The developer's 1.9 announcement, released on June 25, 2026, is what added these locked bunkers. That timing explains why the route only appears in reports from summer 2026 onwards. Think of the card as a key that connects two places rather than a reward in itself; the real payoff is the mission that appears afterwards.
Step 1: find a locked bunker
Locked bunkers appear as procedural points of interest in uncharted levels. Because they are procedural, there is no fixed location or coordinate that works in every run. Explore uncharted levels carefully and watch for a locked structure.
Players describe different entry puzzles at these bunkers. Treat getting inside as its own step, separate from using the card later. Our bunker guide explains how these locked bunkers differ from the original Gravity Farms facility.
If you do not find a locked bunker in a given level, it may simply not have appeared in that layout. Try other uncharted levels rather than searching the same map repeatedly. Layouts vary from run to run, so patience is part of the process.
Step 2: pick up the red key card inside
Inside the locked bunker, several players describe the card as an item tucked into an interior corner. Some compare its appearance to a lunchbox, so look for a small pickup rather than a large object. Check the corners of the room carefully before leaving.
Reports disagree on whether a resource payment is involved at any point. Because of that disagreement, we do not publish an exact component cost. Read the prompts in your own game to see what, if anything, is required.
Step 3: use it at the Flourishing Desert building
With the card in hand, travel to the access-card building in Flourishing Desert. Inside, use the computer terminal. According to the June discovery thread, this is the action that triggers the next stage.
After using the terminal, return to the HUB. A new mission becomes visible there, which is the reward for completing the keycard chain. Check the mission list carefully when you get back, as the new entry is easy to overlook. If the terminal does not respond, confirm that you are carrying the card and that you are inside the access-card building rather than another desert structure.
Step-by-step checklist
Use this list to track your progress through the whole chain. Each step is described in more detail above.
- Explore uncharted levels until you find a locked bunker.
- Solve its entry puzzle and get inside.
- Pick up the red key card from inside the bunker.
- Travel to the access-card building in Flourishing Desert.
- Use the computer terminal inside the building.
- Return to the HUB and look for the newly available mission.
Don't confuse it with the Gravity Farms bunker
Many older guides about a Mycopunk bunker describe the Gravity Farms facility. That secret uses three hidden switches and leads to a Scorched Transponder and the Globbler secret weapon. It does not involve a red key card.
Some July 2025 posts said the red key card was unavailable. Those claims came from before version 1.9 added locked bunkers, so they are no longer reliable evidence. If a guide predates June 2026, it is almost certainly describing a different secret.
Tips for finding a locked bunker faster
Since locked bunkers are procedural, the main skill is efficient exploration. Sweep uncharted levels methodically instead of wandering, and look for structures that are clearly sealed. If a level does not contain one, move on rather than searching the same area again.
A crew can split up to cover more ground. Agree before deploying that whoever spots a locked bunker calls it out, and that the group regroups there to solve the entry puzzle together. This keeps the search fast without leaving anyone behind.
Remember the end goal while you explore. The card is only useful once it reaches the Flourishing Desert building, so plan your session with enough time to finish the chain.
Common mistakes with the red key card
The first mistake is looking for the card at Gravity Farms. That facility belongs to the Globbler secret and uses three hidden switches; the red key card comes from the newer locked bunkers. Older videos can easily send you to the wrong place.
The second is stopping after picking the card up. The card does nothing on its own until you use the terminal in the Flourishing Desert access-card building. The third is forgetting to check the HUB afterwards, which is where the new mission appears.
Multiplayer notes and the 1.9.4 fix
Early on, some players saw strange terrain around locked bunkers. Patch 1.9.4 fixed a bug where locked-bunker terrain was carved only for the host. Make sure everyone in your lobby has the latest version before attempting the bunker together.
Working as a crew helps with the search, because several players can scout uncharted levels at the same time. Version 1.9 also added built-in voice chat that does not require a Discord account, which makes it easy to call out a locked bunker when someone spots one.
What is still unconfirmed
Several details remain unverified. We do not know the exact component cost, if any, whether the card persists between sessions, or how likely a locked bunker is to spawn. No directly relevant English video walkthrough could be verified either.
Patch 1.9.4 shows the developer is actively maintaining these bunkers, but it does not establish a guaranteed card spawn rate. If you have current screenshots of the bunker, the card or the desert terminal, sending them through our contact page would help us fill these gaps. For other secrets, see the hidden weapons guide.
We will also watch the 1.0 release on October 20, 2026, which adds new content and could change how locked bunkers or the keycard chain behave.
