What kind of weapon is the Accelerator?
The Accelerator is a burst-fire submachine gun built around Oxythane, the theme of the update that introduced it. The official Oxythane Breach announcement lists three defining traits: bursts that become progressively larger as you continue firing, shots that are electrified by default, and the ability to fire while sprinting.
Those traits make it a weapon for players who like to stay on the move and keep the trigger held. Each consecutive burst is bigger than the last, so sustained fire is rewarded. Sprint firing means you do not have to choose between repositioning and dealing damage.
When it was added: from preview to release
The Accelerator was first previewed in the official update 1.3.4 notes as an accelerating shock-burst SMG. That was a preview of what was coming, not the playable release. Some early discussion mixes the two up, so keep the dates in mind when reading older posts.
The weapon became playable with Oxythane Breach on November 3, 2025. The release announcement names the weapon and its Special Assignment. A MeAgain Leo episode from November 6, 2025 focused on unlocking things with the new gun, which matches that release window.
How to start unlocking the Accelerator
The official announcement ties the Accelerator to the Oxythane Breach Special Assignment. That assignment is the place to begin if you want the weapon. Check the current mission and inventory screens in your game for the exact steps.
We do not state an exact current cost or drop rate. We also do not claim that it is unlocked through an ordinary Armament License, the system version 1.9 introduced for regular weapons. Acquisition details can change with updates, so the in-game interface is the reliable reference.
If you have recently confirmed the steps in your own game, a screenshot of the assignment and its requirements would help us add more detail to this section.
Patch history you should know
The Accelerator was adjusted soon after release. Patch 1.5.2 changed Feedback Loop so that it counts the bullets you actually fire, rather than the maximum burst size. The same patch fixed Accelerator rockets that were unintentionally tracking allies.
These changes explain why videos from the first week look so dramatic. Some setups exploited the original burst counting, and a CarsonSnorlax video from November 5, 2025 shows the weapon was still strong after the first nerf. We do not repeat exact damage figures from those clips, since they describe earlier versions.
More changes are coming. The October 18, 2026 “1.0 and the Moon” preview announces an upcoming change to Confident Queen that affects secondary-weapon refills, so re-check your ammunition setup after the 1.0 update.
When you compare two Accelerator videos, the patch they were recorded on matters more than the result they show. A clip from before 1.5.2 and one from after it are effectively measuring different weapons. Look for the upload date and any version note in the description.
Baseline behaviour vs upgraded behaviour
It is worth separating what the Accelerator does on its own from what upgrades make it do. Out of the box, it fires growing, electrified bursts. Upgrades can change the element, add effects or alter how the bursts scale.
Players testing element combinations in January 2026 discussed its shock behaviour alongside bee-related and converted-element options. Those discussions show how far upgrades can move the weapon from its default. When reading a guide, check whether it describes the base weapon or a specific upgraded build.
Tips for using the Accelerator well
Because bursts grow with continued fire, avoid releasing the trigger more than you need to. Short, choppy bursts give up the scaling that makes the weapon strong. Pair it with enough ammunition support that you can keep firing through a fight.
Use the sprint-firing trait to stay mobile. Moving while you shoot keeps you out of danger and lets you keep the burst growing at the same time. Standing still with the Accelerator wastes one of its main advantages.
Finally, remember that its shots are electrified by default. If you add upgrades that react to elements, make sure they react to electricity, or use a conversion upgrade deliberately.
- Hold the trigger to let bursts grow.
- Fire while sprinting to stay mobile.
- Plan ammunition support around sustained fire.
- Check which element your other upgrades expect.
Common misconceptions about the Accelerator
The first misconception is about timing. Because the 1.3.4 notes previewed the weapon, some players assume it was playable from that patch. The playable release came later, with Oxythane Breach on November 3, 2025.
The second comes from video titles. A clip calling the Accelerator “the most broken weapon ever” is itself labelled “Already Nerfed!”, so it records a moment that has passed. Judge the weapon by current patch notes and your own testing, not by launch-week highlights.
The third is about unlocking. Version 1.9 moved ordinary weapons to Armament Licenses, but we found no source confirming that the Accelerator follows that path. The Oxythane Breach Special Assignment remains the documented starting point.
Using the Accelerator solo and in co-op
Solo, the Accelerator's mobility is a big advantage. Being able to sprint while firing lets you stay out of trouble without giving up damage, which matters when nobody else is drawing attention. Keep some survivability in your loadout so you are not forced to stop shooting.
In co-op, teammates can hold enemies in place while you keep a long burst going. Talk with your crew about elements as well, because the Accelerator's default electrified shots may combine with, or clash with, what they are using. The in-game voice chat added in version 1.9 makes that coordination simple.
Whichever way you play, the weapon rewards commitment. It is at its best when you hold the trigger, keep moving and give the bursts time to grow.
Building around the Accelerator
This page covers the weapon itself. For a full loadout, including ammunition, elemental routes and patched exploits to avoid, read our Accelerator build guide. It goes through how to fill the grid around the weapon's burst loop.
For the progression systems that improve any weapon, such as boosting non-exotic upgrades and Pattern Infusion, see the general build guide.
Other weapons worth knowing
The Accelerator arrived through an update, but some Mycopunk weapons are hidden behind secrets instead. The Carver chainsaw and the Globbler acid grenade launcher both have documented secret routes. Our hidden weapons guide and chainsaw guide explain how to get them.
