How to Install Mycopunk Mods (and What Hosts Can Block)

To mod Mycopunk on PC, install the Mycopunk-specific BepInExPack and use a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager, then add the mods you want along with their dependencies and launch the modded profile. Hosts can block modded players: since update 1.0.5, lobbies are labelled when modded, and a host setting called Allow Modded Joiners decides whether you can join.

Does Mycopunk support mods?

Yes, on PC. The official update 1.0.5 notes describe preliminary mod support, including details about Mono, labels for modded lobbies and controls for hosts. The developer's Ouroboros announcement later included developer-facing examples of how mods can register content.

Developer support for modding does not mean every mod is supported or safe. Mods are made by players, and each one has its own compatibility and update schedule. Treat the developer's support as a framework, not a guarantee for individual packages.

No verified way to mod the PS5 version was found. Everything on this page applies to the PC version on Steam.

What you need: BepInEx and a mod manager

Mycopunk mods use BepInEx, a widely used mod loader. There is a Mycopunk-specific package called BepInExPack Mycopunk on Thunderstore, which was at version 5.4.2403 when this page was researched. Its maintainer documents installation specifically for Mycopunk, so it is the version to follow.

The pack maintainer recommends installing through a mod manager that works with Thunderstore. A manager handles the loader, your mods and their dependencies, and lets you keep a separate modded profile. That makes it easy to switch back to the unmodded game.

Installing mods with a mod manager

This is the recommended route for most players. Follow the steps in order, and read each mod's page for any extra instructions.

  • Install a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager and select Mycopunk.
  • Create a new profile for your modded game.
  • Install BepInExPack Mycopunk into that profile.
  • Install the mods you want; let the manager add their dependencies.
  • Launch the game through the manager's modded profile.

Manual installation

If you prefer not to use a manager, the pack documentation describes a manual method. Move the contents of the BepInExPack folder into the folder that contains the Mycopunk executable. Then launch the game once so the loader can initialise.

After that first launch, you can add plugin mods according to each mod's instructions. Manual installs are harder to undo, so keep track of every file you add. Back up your saves before changing anything.

Modded multiplayer: what hosts can block

Update 1.0.5 added indicators that show when a lobby is modded, and a host setting called Allow Modded Joiners. If a host disables that setting, players running mods cannot join their crew. This protects players who want a vanilla experience.

If you play online with mods, look for lobbies that allow modded joiners, or switch to your unmodded profile before joining a vanilla crew. Some mods change gameplay in ways other players may not expect, so it is polite to mention them. Our matchmaking guide explains the crew browser in more detail.

A mod called RegionBypass, for example, changes how lobby searches handle Steam regions. That can help with a sparse lobby list, but it is a mod, not an official fix.

Example: gameplay-changing mods

KeepContraband, by WDIENAT, is a clear example of a mod that changes the rules. In the base game, Contraband upgrades stay inside the Ouroboros mode. According to the mod's documentation, it adds eligible Contraband to Cleanse so it can be kept.

That is modified behaviour, not a hidden option in the normal game. Our corrupted items guide explains the base-game rules. We did not test the mod, so we cannot vouch for its current compatibility. Other gameplay-changing mods follow the same principle: they alter rules other players may rely on, so mention them to your crew before joining.

Mods vs unlock tools vs trainers

Not everything called a “mod” works the same way. SlideDrum's July 2025 video previews MenuMod2, which is used to unlock everything and more. That is a very different kind of tool from a quality-of-life plugin, because it bypasses normal progression.

There are also trainers, which are separate programs offering cheats such as health or ammunition. A September 2025 WeMod video presents one under the title of essential mods. Trainers are not BepInEx plugins and are not covered by the setup on this page.

Decide what kind of change you actually want before installing anything. If you want to keep normal progression intact, avoid unlock-all tools and trainers.

Choosing your first mods

Start small. Install one or two mods, confirm the game runs and behaves as expected, then add more. If something breaks, you will know which mod caused it.

Before installing, check when the mod was last updated and read recent comments on its page. A mod that has not been updated since an earlier version may not work with the current game. Mods with many dependencies are worth extra care, because each dependency also needs to match your version.

Switching back to the unmodded game

If you used a mod manager, switching back is simple: launch the game without the modded profile. Your modded profile stays available for next time. This is the main reason the pack maintainer recommends a manager.

If you installed manually, remove the files you added to the game folder to return to vanilla. That is why keeping a list of every added file matters. Verifying the game files through Steam can also help if you are unsure what changed.

Switching back is worth doing before joining a crew that does not allow modded players, or before reporting a bug to the developer.

Staying safe while modding

Back up your save files before installing mods or changing profiles. Check each package's version against your game version, because a major update such as 1.0 on October 20, 2026 can break mods until their authors update them. Remove or disable mods that stop working.

We did not install or run any mod while researching this page, so we cannot confirm compatibility or behaviour for specific packages. We also found no verified information about how mods affect achievements. Read each mod's page and recent comments before installing. When the 1.0 update lands, expect a short period where some mods need updates; your unmodded profile keeps the game playable in the meantime.

Where to get help

For problems with a specific mod, the mod's own page on Thunderstore is the best place to start. For questions about the base game, the official Mycopunk Discord and the r/MycopunkGame subreddit are active communities. If you play on PlayStation, see our PS5 guide instead, since mods are a PC-only workflow.
