How to Unlock the Chainsaw (Carver) in Mycopunk

To unlock the Mycopunk chainsaw, called the Carver, complete the Broken Frame secret chain. Get server access through the Panels route in Titan City, enter the server room in the HUB, then collect the remaining modules in Gravity Farms, Flourishing Desert and Moldy Tundra. With every module in hand, assemble the Broken Frame. Use the authored map layouts when following landmark directions.

Overview: the chainsaw is assembled, not found

The Carver is one of Mycopunk's secret weapons, and you build it by completing a quest item called the Broken Frame. The frame needs several modules, which are spread across the HUB and three mission regions. Collect them all and you can assemble the chainsaw.

Two independently written routes describe the same chain: an illustrated Russian Steam guide, updated in May 2026, and an English GamerBlurb article from July 2025. A voiced video guide by SlideDrum covers it too. Because these accounts agree, the module chain is well established.

One article claimed the entire chainsaw is simply hidden behind a wall panel in the desert. That account conflicts with the other sources and was rejected; the desert holds only one module in the chain.

Step 1: get server access in Titan City

The chain begins with a prerequisite rather than a module. Both written guides describe gaining server access through a Panels route in Titan City. Without this access you cannot reach the first module, so do this step first.

Follow the route on the authored version of Titan City. Directions in older guides refer to fixed landmarks, and procedural terrain can make those landmarks hard to recognise. If something looks different, check that you are on the correct map layout.

Step 2: collect the module in the HUB server room

With server access unlocked, head back to the HUB and enter the server room. The first module is located there.

Once you have it, keep an eye on your inventory. Version 1.9 made Broken Frame modules impossible to scrap, so you cannot lose them by accidentally recycling them.

Step 3: the remaining modules in three regions

The rest of the modules are found out in the world. The illustrated Steam guide places them at specific landmarks in each region, which are summarised below. Take your time on each map; the modules are easy to miss if you rush past the landmark. Note which modules you already have so you only revisit the regions you still need.

  • Gravity Farms: a module on top of the fungus.
  • Flourishing Desert: a module inside the engine of the crashed ship.
  • Moldy Tundra: a module near the pipes.

Step 4: assemble the Broken Frame

With all modules collected, you can assemble the Broken Frame. The modules fit together in a triangular arrangement on the frame. Completing it unlocks the Carver. Before assembling, compare the frame with the modules you hold; if one is missing, the overview at the top of this page lists where each comes from.

We do not show an exact grid diagram yet, because the final arrangement should be confirmed with a current in-game screenshot before publishing. If the assembly screen looks different from older videos, follow what the current interface shows.

Tips for finding the modules

Most trouble with the chainsaw route comes from landmarks rather than the steps themselves. Comments on the Steam guide separate permanent map layouts from procedural ones, and old directions only match the permanent versions. If a landmark seems missing, you may be on a procedurally generated layout.

A crew helps here, since several players can search the same map at once. Agree on which module you are hunting and split up around the landmark. The built-in voice chat added in version 1.9 makes calling out a find much quicker.

SlideDrum also published a raw, unedited walkthrough alongside the voiced guide. It shows the same route without commentary, which some players find easier to follow, though it is from the same creator rather than an independent source.

Common problems on the route

Most players who get stuck on the chainsaw hit one of a few predictable problems. Working through this list usually reveals which step needs another look.

  • Cannot reach the server room: complete the Titan City Panels route for server access first.
  • A module is not where the guide says: check that you are on the authored map layout, not a procedural one.
  • Following a desert-only route: the desert holds one module in the engine of the crashed ship, not the whole chainsaw.
  • Costs do not match an old guide: requirements have changed since 2025, so trust the current in-game screen.

Is the chainsaw still worth unlocking?

Yes, the quest is still very much part of the game. Version 1.9 changed Broken Frame modules so they can no longer be scrapped, which shows the developer still treats the chain as meaningful content. Secret weapons also kept their own unlock method when normal weapon unlocks changed in 1.3.3.

Whether the Carver suits your playstyle is a separate question, and its balance has changed since launch. Unlock it, read its current tooltips and try it in a few missions before deciding how central it should be to your build.

If you are collecting every secret, it is worth doing the chainsaw alongside the Globbler, since both routes pass through Gravity Farms. Planning them together saves a few trips.

Costs and probabilities we do not publish

Older guides list total crafting costs and Saxonite probabilities for the chainsaw. Those figures come from 2025, and costs in Mycopunk have changed with several updates. We do not reproduce them as current facts.

Check the requirements shown in your own game when you reach each step. If you have confirmed current costs with a screenshot, we would welcome a correction through the contact page.

Using the Carver after you unlock it

The Carver has a balance history worth knowing. The official 1.0.5 patch notes corrected Carver upgrade names and changed how Blood Bucket and Blood Coating behave. A launch-era build that relied on near-invulnerability is therefore not a safe recommendation today.

Treat the chainsaw like any other weapon in your build: decide how it fits your combat loop and check current tooltips before copying an old setup. Our build guide explains how to plan around grid space and progression tools.

An older video about farming upgrades used a Carver configuration that has since been nerfed. If you see the chainsaw in older farming guides, check the date before relying on it.

More secrets to chase

The Carver is one of two hidden weapons with corroborated routes. The other, the Globbler acid grenade launcher, starts with three hidden switches at Gravity Farms; see the hidden weapons guide and the bunker guide. The newer red key card secret is covered in our red key card guide.
